Splinter Cell 3

Post by LeBron » 13 May 2004 10:31

evo tle je nekaj informacij:

A Japanese Information Defense Force is formed to help face modern threats. Deemed a violation of international law and of the Japanese Post-War Constitution, Korea and China become outraged.

Secretly, the head of the IDF begins launching information-warfare attacks against Japan and blaming the attacks on North Korea. When the U.S. intervenes, as they are obligated to under Article 9 of the Japanese Post-War Constitution, the U.S. is attacked as well, forcing North Korea to escalate the situation with a pre-emptive invasion of South Korea.

As war erupts on the Korean Peninsula, Sam Fisher must thwart the alliance between the Japanese admiral, a neurotic computer hacker, and the head of an international paramilitary company in order to prevent the rekindling of a massive world war in the Pacific.
Deadly Agility: Incredibly complete and fluid variety of moves, including athletic moves, stealth moves, and stealth kills.

Real Weapons of Tomorrow: The most complete arsenal of weapons and gadgets from the knife to the experimental Land Warrior System.

As Good As Real: Never-seen-before graphics technology offers the best visuals on any console yet. Advanced physics engine allows rag doll physics, particle effects, and perfect interaction with the environment.

Ultimate Challenge: Intelligent AI with personal attributes and natural behavior. NPCs are aware of their environment and remember past events.

Amazing Replayability: Totally open level design with multi-paths and optional secondary objectives.

Co-op Stealth: Play multiplayer with your friends and coordinate your infiltration in an all-new multiplayer challenge.

izide pa baje že letos....

nekaj novih informacij oz. prve vtisi igre iz E3ja:

Oh but what do we have here, another treasure lurking in the shadows. Not something we can get into in great detail about. The demonstration was good sized, but questions were non existent. But... what we did see was a level from the single player encompassing a lot of different actions, some small demonstrations of various features, in both the graphical and gameplay portions.

The demo began with Sam Fisher standing on the edge of a cliff at the top of a waterfall. It was night, or close to night and as Sam moved back into the crevice from which the water ran, things became much, much darker. It was obvious through the demo that this was an experienced player in this particular level as I have never seen a Splinter Cell level played with such precision and speed.

Immediately up the path an enemy sat on top of a rock formation with a building behind him and a couple of lights. Moving as quickly as possible, a silenced pistol was pulled out and the first light of the bunch was popped with a smack. Immediately, Sam moved forward in the water to stand with his back against the rock formation as the guard lit a flare and moved forward towards the destroyed light. After seeing nothing, the paranoia set in and the guard flung the flare outward, arcing over Sam's hiding place below the feet of the enemy. Instead of dealing the man a final blow, Sam moved along, climbing up onto a smaller rock and proceeding towards the building.

Immediately there was another guard, at which point the driver of this demo took the time to show off one of their new killing methods. On the ceiling hung a bar, the likes of which Sam Fisher had skinnied and swung across many a times. This time however, when the enemy had moved below his perch on the bar, Sam let go with his hands, hanging from his ankles, grabbed a hold of the enemy, lifted him, and snapped his twiggy little evil neck. Snap! The body dropped to the floor on the wood panels and Sam soon followed suit, moving forwards to a opening along the floor.

One of the really great things about this house and this level was its Japanese style with translucent paper walls. Enemy shadows could be seen through each of these walls and as was later demonstrated, they could be torn through with some ease.

For the time being, Sam moved a sliding panel along the base of the building in order to climb in and take care of a guard waiting inside. The room was lit by a candle. In order to create some comfortable darkness with which to work, Sam crept over to the candle and carefully blew it out. Of course, the guard on the other side of the door leading into the next room noticed and quickly entered the room, exclaiming about the extinguished candle while reaching into his pocket to grab some matches. Last thing he ever did... poor bastard.

From there, Sam moved into the rest of the house, killing and disabling as he went until he reached an area with several men inside and a crawl space along the floor. Quickly ducking into the crawl space to avoid detection, attention was drawn to the conversation in the room about terrorist types of things. While the conversation needed a bit more context to really make sense, there was one cool moment where one of the guards dropped his change on the floor right next to Sam's crawlspace. But before the guard bent to pick up his coins, the other started making fun of him because of their worthlessness.

After the men in the room went their ways, Sam crawled out of the space, moving into the next room. Next victim was a guard waiting in the adjoining hallway. The coolest thing about this kill was the fact that he was standing in the hall on the other side of the "wall." Sam walked up to the wall, through which the guard's shadow could be seen, and busted through the paper, grabbing the guard and killing him.

From there, Sam had to take care of some more guards before reaching his destination and overhearing another conversation about some weapons and their nefarious uses. After the conversation ended with a deathblow by one of the participants, Sam was given the order to move ahead and try to capture the remaining man. The time for sneaking was apparently over as the machine gun broke out and Sam went on a bit of a killing spree.

Here's the great thing though. Remember how Sam didn't have a knife and everyone thought that would be a cool thing to have? Well it is a cool thing to have. In between chucking grenades and shooting bullets, Sam tucked away the long range destruction in favor of a more personal touch. He sliced and diced his way through enemies once he had managed to get close enough with more than a small bit of flourish. This could almost be a terrific product placement for combat knives he made it look so efficient and easy.

Sadly, after tapping into a computer the level was complete, but not so sadly we were treated to even more Splinter Cell goodness with some optional movies. By optional, I mean the folks watching the presentation, of which there were probably 20 or more, had to vote for one of two movies to be shown a couple of times. The first movie voted on by the group was a demonstration of some of the amazing new features to do with weather. The movie showed Sam moving outside at which point the rain started pouring down.

First off, the rain effects are good. Especially when you add in the highlighting, reflections, and wetness that the rain suddenly gives each of the different textures sitting in its path. Rock walls turned slick and wet, puddles shimmered with drops, and Sam's suit glistened with water.

The rain also has an effect on AI. Once the downpour began, a guard at the bottom of some stairs put up his hands palm up feeling for the rain and then turned around and looked for shelter. Of course, the shelter he found was dark and provided the perfect place for Sam to sneak up and kill him. Praise be the rain!

Next we saw another example of the hang and neck break technique used on a poor defenseless janitor. Best part was when he dropped to the ground, he landed on his head, which bent at an awkward angle while the rest of the body rested against the floor and wall. Poor janitor.

Next, the crowd decided to get more of a glimpse at the new knife. Turns out it not only is good for entertainment and cutting lanyard strings, but also has more practical uses such as silently cutting through plastic sheeting. The example show was Sam sneaking up on a man using a computer through a transparent plastic sheeting wall. Unlike the paper wall in the real-time demo, Sam couldn't just bust through the plastic so instead took out the knife and sliced open a nice little slit through which he could attack the man from behind.

Lastly on the video front, we got a chance to check out another of Sam's nifty moves, which you can actually see happening in the screen above. Basically, Sam dropped down to hang from a ledge and inched across to hang below the feet of a guard. At the command, Sam lunged up, grabbed the guard, flung him over the edge to crash far below the lighthouse. Sweeeeeet.

Finally, in the coolest demonstration of all, Ubi showed off the new multiplayer co-op mode. Yes, now players will be able to run through missions designed for two players over the Internet and LAN. The sweet thing about this is that these missions will make players take advantage of teamwork in some really cool ways.

For the demo, two monitors were shown, one for each of the players (this was in real-time with people at the show playing). The two players were charged with getting into a building and stealing some information. But the building in front of them was completely glass along the front. No ledges and lots of space for enemies inside to spot them. But there was a wall next to the building, just a little too high for one player to jump up to. But when one player crouched with his back to the wall, and put his hands in front of him, it was obvious he was offering a leg up. The second player ran up, put his foot in the crouched guy's hands, and was thrown up and over the wall. It was fantastique!

From there, the one that went over the wall found a pipe that he quickly shimmied up to the roof of the building. From there, he dropped a rope for the other player still stuck at the bottom. That player quickly grabbed a hold and began climbing. But when guards were looking out the window, the one quickly told the other to move the rope to the left or right to get around the view of the guards. Also fantastique.

Once both player were on the roof, they moved into the building, first looking under the door with a fiber optic camera. Players can actually let their teammates take a look through their camera when this happens to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

Eventually, the two got to the final room after climbing around in an air duct. Below was a guard asleep at a desk with a hackable computer right below. In Mission Impossible style, one attached a rope to the other and lowered him, headfirst, down to the computer where the one being lowered proceeded to start typing away on the keyboard. This was some real spy guy stuff and super cool to see. Obviously there's some good stuff going on in multiplayer and we can't wait to see more of it!

As always, keep your eyes peeled for more info about the next splintered adventure, we'll certainly fill you in when we know more.
